I created this cheap DIY open-source antweight robot, controlled with bluetooth mobile device using the dabble app. The goal of this project was to lower the cost of a starter robot and it’s more for people to play around.
It’s a good STEAM learning tool, as you can supply it as just “LEGO” with everything soldered and you only have to screw everything together or you can go from the barebones and explain how PCBs are designed (maybe design your own using the provided one as a template), create your own cover for the robot with CAD software, mold your own tires with silicone, see how everything was 3D printed, solder and assemble everything together, also because it uses an ESP32, it’s possible to program it to do additional functions.
Total cost of everything (if you source 1cell lithium battery yourself) – around 15eur
Do note, that this robot was made for the Lithuanian Antweight class which is 200g. Also it’s not possible to use a 18650 if you want to be under 200g.
In our tests we noticed that the IOS Dabble doesn’t support “analog” joystick (was very delayed), only “digital” buttons and it seems that the bluetooth reception is limited in arenas for some reason.
You can find all the files and info in the Github Repo down below:
Github repo (it will be updated until the end of third week of October with a new PCB, refined 3D design and small fixes)
